BOLIVIAN PANTANAL

4 DAYS - 3 NIGHTS
DAY 1 SANTA CRUZ- PTO. SUAREZ

Reception at the airport of Puerto Suarez and transportation to the selected hotel.
Excursion to the Laguna Cáceres, bordering Puerto Suarez, with a 80 km² surface area and a depth of more than 3 meters. In springtime you can observe an enormous colony of herons that nest on the north side. It is possible to see the canals which connect the Paraguay and Pimienta rivers and La Isla el Recreo, except in December and January when the flow is to low. Jabirúes, Chajas, Yacarés, Nutrias and Capybaras congregate at the lagoon and with luck you will see them!
We go by car to the ecological center and walk along the shore from there to the slide.
We recommend to bring repellent, a cap, a camera and a raincoat.

<·· DAY 2: PANTANAL Breakfast.

Departure at 8:30am to the Motacusito caves, which are an open passage for water in the Calcárea rock, with a horizontal outline and lenght of 80 meters.
Inside the caves live a variety of unusual fauna (vampirebats, amphibians and strange spiders (arachnids) and stalagmite and stalactite rock formations.
The climax of the trip is the underwater passage by inner tube searching for the opening in the rock.
The trip over this terrain is by vehicle to the cave, where we take a short walk.

We recommend taking a bathing suit, a towel, a flashlight, mosquito repellent and a camera. After lunch we will travel to Santa Tecla. This hidden waterfall is near the Cáceres Lagoon and there are lots of monkeys (4 different species) as well as Iguanas, Toucans and hummingbirds. The water has carved a deep pool in the rock with fresh and crystal clear water where we can swim.

Here it is possible to see thousands of white herons and morays flying overhead depending on the time of the year.
We go by vehicle to the ecological center where we visit the animal recovery center with the breeding and captive turtles, zoological signs, etc.
From the center we walk through an open path in the forest to Santa Tecla that turns into the bank of the lagoon. We recommend bringing your bathing suit, a towel, mosquito repellent, a cap or hat and a camera. In the afternoon we return to the hotel and have dinner.

<·· DAY 3: PANTANAL

Breakfast.
Daytrip to the Paraguay River. The Paraguay River flows from el Estado de Mato Grosso in Brasil to Confluencia in Argentina and from the Cáceres to Apea River, to cross the Pantanal. From Puerto Suarez the Paraguay River gains acces through the Tamengo canal, at 10,5 km lenght.
We pass by Curumba and Ladario and reach a secluded section of the river, right in the heart of the Pantanal, not often used for passage where we search for Yacarés, Capybaras, Jabirus, Herons and Anacondas that rest and feed on the banks.

We go by vehicle to the ecological center and from here we travel by canoe through the Cáceres lagoon, the Tamengo canal and the Paraguay River to a hotel on the bank, where we will eat fresh fish.

Before and after lunch we will continue to look for the typical fauna of the Pantanal along the riverbanks. At sunset we return to the ecological center where we have dinner and stay for the night.
We recommend bringing mosquito repellent, a cap, a camera and a raincoat.
